About her dedication and resourcefulness for her job: 
Charlene was a hard-working, dedicated substitute clerk for the school district.  It was her mission to get to know the substitutes well so she could talk them into working even when they really did not want to work.  The substitutes, as well as the school people, loved Charlene.  The substitutes were always bringing her cookies, donuts, eggs, etc.  One funny story: Charlene was needing a substitute one day.  She called a gentleman to work.  His wife reported that he was at the barber shop.  Charlene found out which barber shop, called there and told him that it shouldn't take long for him to get a haircut, and then he could go on to school.  He did.
About her many talents: 
Charlene was very talented in a variety of ways - one of which was sewing.  She loved for you to give her a sewing challenge to figure out.  When I built my house, Charlene created the curtains for two bedrooms, a table drape and a kitchen curtains from things that were not meant to be curtains.  She took pride in her ability to create something beautiful, and she was delighted to have been helpful.
About her spirit and wisdom: Charlene was the "mother" of many in the school system.  She was a person that many told their problems to, and one that everyone could count on for good advice.  Sometimes the advice came with an arm around the shoulder, but sometimes the advice came with a scolding.  Nonetheless, everyone knew she greatly cared for them.

There are lots of memories of your mom that made me feel at home when I was at your house.  There was never a time when there wasn't a pitcher of sweet tea in the refrigerator......

Grandma and I had so many conversations about teaching and going into Special Education.  She was a huge supporter in my decision to go to UCA to become a teacher.

I have 2 favorite memories of her. I stayed with her and Bob for a week when I was a young teenager and she taught me that the best junk shops were a bit dangerous (perhaps you could fall through the floor) and were so dirty that you needed to wash your hands when you left. Also, she introduced me to the deliciousness of Red Hots.  Robert Lane, nephew

I have known Charlene for about 35 years.  I liked her the day I met her and have treasured our friendship from that day forward.  We shared a love for junk shops and antiques and there was never a lull in our conversations.  She was a wonderful Mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was full of fun 
and laughter.   Her grand kids always knew where to find Red Hots or Skittles!

Before I got a full-time teaching job, I substituted one semester.  Your Mom called me late one afternoon and said they needed someone who could handle a tough class of 6th graders for a few days.  My only experience with that age was that I had a 5th grader at home at that time.  It was actually a wonderful group, and I can still remember almost every child in that class!  Your Mom had given me confidence! She was always a professional in a kind and caring manner.  I never actually met her until you started working at Sutton.  I remember the day you introduced us, and thinking she was exactly the way I had imagined her to be.  You know she had to be special for me to be able to recall how much I respected her as the voice on the other end of the phone line over 20 years ago!!

I remember sweet tea with lemon and fresh mint, white rice with roast gravy, letting us sunbathe in the backyard with the water house running and not telling Uncle Bob.  I remember going to junk stores with her...she started me down that path at a very young age.  I remember these things and so much more.......

I have many, many fond memories of a happy, loving woman.  Some people give you hugs, but when she did this, I knew that she meant it.  I felt the love from her always.  Plus I always loved her beautiful birthday cakes she made when we were kids!!

My best memories are all from car trips between Colorado and Arkansas.  Grandma was stuck listening to four furbies for two days in a car!  One trip, we went to a drive-through zoo.......she always made amazing cinnamon toast.  I remember summer trips to Beaver Creek and my Dad, and sometimes the Paris's.

I remember the time that I hit my head really hard at the playground and got a concussion.  I wouldn't leave my bike.....and Neenah walked me AND my bike home!!

Charlene was the one person that encouraged me to have confidence in myself and she did it in some many small ways.
One of my vivid memories of her, and one that I share with others, is never go junking without a wet cloth to clean your hands, preferably one of a dark color!
Charlene and I lost Robert in Penney's one time.  They were having a huge sale with many racks out, and we were intent on going over every rack.  We heard a message over the store intercom saying they had a "lost boy." We looked at one another and looked around for Robert.....and knew it was him!

Charlene was my boss when I started subbing 14 years ago for Fort Smith Public Schools.  She was very kind and considerate.  I never minded those early morning calls because I knew it would be Charlene I would talk to.  I'm still subbing and am thankful for the encouragement she gave me way back then.

Growing up next door to her I always knew she was watching out for me and that she loved me unconditionally.  Easter was a beautiful day to start her eternal life in heaven.  She will be missed.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

I used to substitute teach and get to hear her sweet voice in those early morning hours. :) She came into my workplace many times to find that "just right" bargain and would tell me all about it!  We will greatly miss her.

It was a pleasure getting to know Charlene and her family. She was a sweet lady and will b missed.

Charlene used to call me to sub in public schools. We had the same church home. She wrote a "rec" for my daughter when she went through rush at OU. Charlene was a client of my late husband and the three of us spent many cozy nights visiting in her home. But more than any of this, she was a gentle spirit and great friend. I will miss her. My prayers are with you and your family.

Charlene, miss you and have great admiration for your love of your family, your love of collections of antiques and collectibles. Your love of nature and plants. You are now with Jay and have peace. Ron and Martha

As a first cousin to Charlene, I have admired her for many years. She was a great lady and contributed significantly to her friends, school, community, and church, and will be greatly missed.

I am a first cousin to Charlene and have been good friends with her since we were just babes.  We have had many special times together and I will miss her. Charlene's family are in my thoughts and prayers.

When ever she had to call and ask you to sub, no matter how early it was, so was always so cheerful.  We miss the cheery voice.

Charlene was such a sweet person and a dear friend to so many.

I am Charlene's cousin, and because of that relationship I have been priviliged to see/visit with her from her earliest years.  She has always been a delightful person and a joy to be around.  My deepest sympathy to her family.  We will all miss her.

Charlene made a tremendous difference in my life, she was like a second mother to me, I can only say "that no matter how sick she was I were not ready to let her leave us"  She will be greatly missed.
