

Claybourn L. Freeman, Sr. of Fort Smith passed from this life September 27, 2014 in Springdale. He was born August 16, 1926, in Fort Smith, to the late Walter and Clara Hopper Freeman. Claybourn was retired, after 38 years, as a maintenance technician with OG & E. While he was in the United States Navy, he was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Harrison, in the Pacific Theatre, during World War II. Claybourn was an honorary member of Boy Scout Troop 123, as well as an avid outdoorsman. Any free time was spent hunting and fishing. He is survived by his son, Leroy Freeman and his wife Mary of Fayetteville, Arkansas; two grandsons Clay Freeman of San Francisco, California and Jonathan Freeman and his wife Gina of Fayetteville, Arkansas; two great grandchildren, Tyler and Peyton Freeman, as well as two brothers, Grady and Ralph Freeman both of Fort Smith. He is preceded in death by his wife, Florine Freeman. Graveside services will be 10:00am Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Oak Cemetery Pavilion. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Edwards Funeral Home.
