

Devedia Evelyn Powell Scott, 90, a resident of Fort Smith for the past 12 years, passed away Friday, January 27th, at Sparks Regional Health Center in Fort Smith. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, William E Scott, daughter Becky Lacewell of Fort Smith, son John William Scott of Austin, Texas, son Greg Scott of Los Angeles, California, sister Jeanette Morrison of Little Rock, 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Born July 16, 1921 in Fountain Hill to Wiley J Powell and Alphia G Estelle, she attended Hamburg High School and married William E Scott on October 15, 1939. They moved to Crossett in 1959 where she served as secretary and receptionist at William E Scott Public Accounting for many years and was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crossett and sang in the Golden Voices Choir.
Upon retirement in 1999 they relocated to Fort Smith to be near their daughter, and were active members of the First Baptist Church of Fort Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, January 31, at Fentress Mortuary Chapel, in Fort Smith, with burial at the U.S. National Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1400 Grand Avenue, Fort Smith, AR, 72901. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, and honorary pallbearers will be members of John Holland’s Sunday school class.
