

Everett Ray “Skipp” Newman, 75, of Barling, passed from this life March 28, 2016 in Fort Smith. He was born September 30, 1940, in Stockton, California, to the late William and Ruth Newman. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran and a retired Deputy from the San Bernardino County (California) Sheriff’s Department. Skipp was active with the Masonic Lodge in Barstow, California and Fort Smith. He was also active with the York Rite, Victory Blue Lodge and Knights Templar. He and his wife, Nita, participated in Civil War reenacting as well. Skipp stayed involved with Boy Scouts and was a Den Master. He was a member at St. John’s Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nita Hayse Newman; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Demarest of Newberry, California and Victoria Carol Gentry of Georgia; his son, David Wayne Newman of Barstow, California; a step-daughter, Tammy Lynn Sapp of Ocala, Florida; a step-son, Timothy Lee Peterson of Yermo, California; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, as well as four step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11:00am Friday, April 1, 2016 at St. John’s Episcopal Church that will include Masonic Burial Rite’s. Burial will follow at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith with Marine Corps honors. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
