

Wes graduated Amarillo High School in 1956 and later attended Texas Tech where he studied accounting. From his first job selling encyclopedias door to door to later moving to Fort Smith, Arkansas to become a loan officer at First Federal Bank, Wes was a loving father and faithful husband committed to supporting his family. In the summer of 1979, he became a chicken farmer in Van Buren, Arkansas where he and his wife Donna raised their three boys David, John, and James. After retiring from farming in the early ‘90s, Wes continued to support his family by providing his accounting expertise to David and Sons appliance repair and D&M Rentals. Wes was active in bowling for many years and was proud to serve as President of the Ft. Smith Bowling Association. A favorite memory was winning the Arkansas State Championship in 1991 as part of a four member team that included his late son, David. Wes was a man of faith known for his good character and personable nature and will be missed by many.
Wes is survived by two sons, John Elder (Lisah) of Marysville, Washington and James Elder (Cathy) of Sammamish, Washington; daughter-in-law Melissa Elder of Spiro, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Michael Elder of Spiro, Corey Elder of Edmond, Oklahoma, Parker and Holden Elder of Sammamish, Washington and Elizabeth Elder of Marysville, Washington, and one great granddaughter Juliet Elder of Edmond, Oklahoma; two sisters Le Nora Elder of Barling and Mary Isom of Van Buren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Wes was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Donna, and his son David.
Graveside services will be 1:00pm Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm Friday, April 8, 2022 at Edwards Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
