

Harper S. Jackson, 85, of Fort Smith, died April 13, 2010 in Fort Smith. He was born March 10, 1925 in Fort Smith to Robert Henry and Gertrude Bradshaw Jackson. He was a graduate of Fort Smith High School, Class of 1942 and the University of Arkansas College of Engineering Class of 1950. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the Island of Tinian in the Pacific Marianna Islands. He was Retired Senior Vice President for Arkhola Division of APAC-ARK after 46 years of service. He was a member of the Registered Professional Engineers in both Arkansas and Oklahoma; lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church having served as Deacon, Elder and Trustee. He served six years on the Fort Smith Planning Commission, twenty two years on the St. Edward Mercy Medical Center Board and on the United Way Allocation Committee, and he was a member of the Fort Smith Noon Civics Club.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Adele Jackson of the home; sons, Harper Jackson, Jr. of Wichita, KS and Larry and wife Debbie Jackson of Cabot, AR; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Jackson, Kathrin Jackson McKinley, Allin Lee Moore, Susan Jackson, John P. Lee, Jr. Caleb Graves Jackson and Noah Bradshaw Jackson; and one great granddaughter, Eislin Adele Moore. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sally Jackson Lee and her husband J. Perry Lee, and one brother Robert Henry Jackson, Jr.
Funeral service will be Friday, April 16, 2010 at 1:00 PM in the First Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in the Oak Cemetery all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Roger Dew, Paul Sandahl, Myron Rappeport, Gene Rapley, Charles Deitz, Bill Goodman, William R. Walker, Bill England, Bill Terral, John Sulcer, Mike Bailey, and Al Campbell.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5-7 PM.
