

Jean Granger Anthony, 91, of Fort Smith, AR, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017, at Methodist Health and Rehabilitation in Fort Smith. She was born in Lavaca, AR to Sherman C. and Ruth (Perry) Granger. She was a retired schoolteacher from Fort Smith School District. Her teaching career ended at Echols Elementary now Euper Lane. Jean taught a total of 38 years. Before coming to Fort Smith, she taught at Lavaca, Huntington and Van Buren. Jean was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Phi Delta Kappa. She was a member of Jenny Lind Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Anthony; her parents, Sherman C. and Ruth (Perry) Granger; and a sister, Fannie Lou Telaar.
Jean had a love for children, even though she never had any biologically. Her students, nieces and nephews were treated as her own. She also loved her great nieces and nephews very much. Jean loved her family very much. By her students often called “the Lady in pink”, she loved pink and wore it often.
Jean loved nature, especially butterflies, animals and flowers.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday, July 21, 2017, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Liberty Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Edwards Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Ann Caldwell of Newark, OH and Sherma Granger of Lavaca, AR; one brother, Charles Granger of Lavaca, AR and several nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews and several great great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Robert Biggerstaff, Don Holland, James Hill, Perry Granger and Kris Lairamore.

The family would like to thank the staff of Methodist Health and Rehab who cared for Jean and treated her like family and the Hospice Staff of Peachtree Hospice for their caring and support.
