

Jerry Ann Johnson, 82, died in Dallas on September 17, 2016. Born on August 12, 1934 in Paris, Arkansas, Jerry was the daughter of the late Jerry Guy and Anna Houser. Jerry grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas where she graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1952. She advanced her education at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas and graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in 1955. After graduation, she began her teaching career as an elementary teacher at Albert Pike Elementary School, Fort Smith, Arkansas. Following her time teaching in Fort Smith, she pursued an adventure by becoming an elementary school teacher in Long Beach, California. While in Long Beach, she found the love of her life, Lawton (John) Johnson and they were married in 1957 at Third Presbyterian Church.
Over their 59 years of marriage, they were blessed with three sons; Mark Johnson of Las Colinas, Texas, Brian Johnson (daughter-in-law, Karen) of Frisco, Texas & Lance Johnson of Frisco, Texas; as well as two granddaughters, Anna Johnson & Sarah Johnson of Fayetteville, Arkansas and grandson, Peyton Johnson of Frisco, TX.
During her life she had the opportunity to live in Arkansas, California, Georgia & Texas and was known for her deep loyalty to her friends, her commitment to PEO, and for her dedication to the Presbyterian Church. Jerry enjoyed playing games with her family, collecting antiques, watching college football (especially her Razorbacks) and hosting family and friends in her home.
A burial service is planned for Tuesday, September 20th at noon at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith Arkansas, followed by a celebration of her life on Friday, September 23rd at 2pm at New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations in Jerry’s honor to New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2525 N. Buckner Blvd, Dallas Texas 75228.
