We shall miss JB.  He was a wonderful neighbor, a loyal friend, and just an all around fine man.  If we were out in the yard and he was driving by, he always had time to stop and visit.   Godspeed JB

J B & I have been friends for over 70 years going back to our teenage years. Always considered him one of my best friends from those early years. I left Ft Smith in 1955, but still had contact through my mother who worked with him at McCartney Oil Co. Later I would occasionally visit with JB at fire houses when I came to town.  I last saw him at our 60th high school reunion in 2013, but mainained contact with him through email & Facebook.  May the good Lord welcome you to heaven. I'll see you again soon.

This man was incredible. I never met my grandparents, and knowing the Merritts has been such a blessing. This family will always have a super special place in my heart! 

Papaw Jim and Nanna always treated me like one of their own. I consider both to be family and my grandparents. They always took the time out to tell me stories and listened to my stories as well. 

One thing that really stood out about Papaw Jim was his voice and how tall he was! He could tell stories for days! He had so many of them. He was full of wisdom. His wisdom was always short and sweet and to the point. 

I will miss him and I cherish all the memories and time I have had with him. Love this man very much. May he rest in peace

Jerry and I really enjoyed comming to visit you guys and staying up late and talking about the good  old days.  Jim was a straight talking guy. We loved Him I know He will be missed. I liked seeing his F.B. post He would post late at night. We Love you guys and will keep you in Our Prayers.  Jerry & Connie.

Mr. Jim, I have talked to u on the phone with Hope's that I would be able to meet u Sir. I wanted to know the man who has made my precious Aunt Mary a very happy woman. My cousin, Judy, her girls, and Ericka,s little girl a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. U are and will always remain in my heart. To Aunt Mary, my heart is broken for u, Judy, the girls and the precious babygirl. I love ya'll. I pray for peace and comfort for all of your family, and friends Mr. Jim. I always remember JB coming into Arvest and having the pleasure of helping him. He always made my day.  You will be missed. Prayers for your family going up. 

I loved Jim Bill!  My dad Jack Tate, worked with him, I guess, for 20 yrs & thought the world of him, as did my mom, Sue and sister, Cindy.  He is in all of my fond memories of the fire department days.  My heart is saddened and prayers are with you all.

We had the pleasure of meeting Jim  Bill  & Mary in November 2012.  Was so much fun listening to all of his stories.  He will be missed.  

My sincere condolences to all the family. JB & I were Facebook friends. Loved hearing his stories, we talked by phone several times & discovered he knew my husband from driving a truck at a few places in past years. I have missed him on FB & will continue to miss him as I know so many will . May God be with you all & give comfort as only He can do.

J.B. was  my dads driver at the fire department for more years than I could count...I loved to Sit and listen to the stories he would tell about the idiots drivers he encountered while driving a fire truck and over the road truck driver..... he will be missed.....RIP JarHead...I stand and salute you

I never got to meet this wonderful man but, we have talked on the phone many, many times. He was a member of Belle Grove Classmates. He would call and thank me for starting the Belle Grove Reunion. It was very good to be his friend. He never got to attend one of our reunions I offered many times to come get him and his wife many times for he wanted to be there but he said thank you Pat I’m in bad health and can’t attend if I get to better I will have 
My daughter bring me. I’m going to miss our talks. You are loved and will be missed by all who knows you RIP Jim Fly High!

JB was a great friend. We spent many hours in his kitchen teaching me about the Masonic Lodge. I learned all of the Chairs from him as well as being the Master of Sebastian lodge. He was always patient and would repeat lessons for hours until I learned what I needed to know. He always had great stories to tell, about the Marines, fire Dept, and driving an 18 wheeler for Dixie Cup. He will forever be missed, no one quite like JB. Rest in peace Brother.

Rest well daddo! You brought so much joy to my life and you will forever be missed. Thank you for being my daddo! Give daddy a big hug from me and swap some stories with him! Much love daddo ❤️
