

Joe Meadows, 85, passed away on January 18, 2011, in Silver Spring, MD. He was born March 27, 1925 in Lavaca, Arkansas to the late William Presley and Willie Rankin Meadows. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys and brother, Dale.
He received his Masters Degree in Education Administration from the University of Arkansas. He served 3 years active duty combat in the U.S. Army during World War II. His career included owning a General Store in Lavaca, Principal/Superintendent of Schools in Havana and Lavaca, Director of Job Corps Center in Franklin, NC, and several years with the Dept of Labor in Washington, DC.
He is survived by three daughters, Mary Jo Greenley of Annapolis, MD; Betty Meadows of Montgomery Village, MD and Linda Burbank and husband Gregory of Gaithersburg, MD; one grandson, Justin Burbank of Gaithersburg, MD; sister, Reba Hammond of Charleston; brother, Gene Meadows of Ft. Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 23, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at Edwards Funeral Chapel with burial at National Cemetery in Fort Smith, AR with Military Honors under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith, AR.
