John Carlis Putnam, 91, of Fort Smith, died January 10, 2012 in Fort Smith. He was born September 15, 1920 in Gould, Oklahoma to Carlos T. and Jewel Barton Cox Putnam. He was the founder and retired owner of Putnam Lincoln Mercury, a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and a member of Goddard United Methodist Church. He loved farming and being with people.
He is survived by one son, Brad Putnam of Fort Smith; two sisters, Janice and husband Frank Allen of Fort Smith, and Luween Smith of New Braunfels, TX; and two grandsons, Sean and Alex Putnam of Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife Katie Putnam of 65 years and daughter Annette Putnam.
Memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2011 at 1:00 PM in the Goddard United Methodist Church with a reception to follow in the Church Parlor. Cremation and services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Annette Putnam Scholarship Fund at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith.
