Leota Womack Heathcock

Leota Heathcock 99 1/2, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Barling, Arkansas, where she resided for over 50 years. She was born in the little community of Maness, where Wells lake in Chaffee Crossing is now, to Lon and Ida Bugg. She was a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, visited the shut ins and worked any where else she was needed. While she had no children of her own, she was Aunt to 24 nieces and nephews.Leota survived two husbands, Cary Womack and Lee Arnold Heathcock. After husband Cary died she worked as a nurse at St. Edwards hospital. Later she went to work for Weldon, Williams, and Lick and worked there until she retired. She was a member of the Order of the eastern star, Amaranth, The Good Neighbors Extension Homemakers Club and in her early years the Sebastian County 4-H club. She was honored as the oldest living 4-H member when the Sebastian County Extension Cooperative celebrated 100 years of 4-H work.

She is survived by Billie Demeter of Sapulpa,Ok, Nelson Jones of MN, Norma Gibbs of Austin, TX, Ramona Bridges of Ft.Smith, Rohena Caperton of Ft.Smith,Tom Willhite of Greenwood, Lon Willhite of Hackett, Buddy Bugg of Ft. Smith, Mary Caviness of Ft. Smith, Joyce Lackey of Ft. Smith, Peggy Moon of Barling, Leon Bugg of KS, Nancy Thames of Greenwood, Opal Harris of Ft. Smith, Jimmy Maness of Tulsa, Johnnie Adkins of El Paso,TX, Lon Paul Bugg of Ft. Smith, Julie Bugg, of Ft. Smith, Bary Bugg of Ft. Smith, Suzanne Stair of North Little Rock, Shannon McQuiston of Fayetteville, Patrick Stair of Noorth Little Rock, Mike Stair of Little Rock, a cousin Lilly Wingfield and Amy Aston and Dorthy Davis who were dear friends.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept.2, 2010 at Central Missionary Baptist Church, at 10:00 a.m. with burial at Barling Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

Pall bearers will be Tom Willhite, Lon Bugg, Brian Bugg,Steve Bridges, Patrick Stair, and Joe Moon.

A memorial has been established at Central Missionary Church, 3631 Jenny Lind, Fort Smith, 72901.
