Margie E. Thomas

Margie Estaline Cloke Guthrie Thomas of Fort Smith passed away on March 7,2011, in a local hospital. She was born October 17, 1922, in Erie, Kansas to Elroy and Hazel Babcock Cloke. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Frank Charles Guthrie and Waldo Alwin Thomas; three brothers, Donald, Duane, and Richard Cloke; and one son, Larry Frank Guthrie. She was known as Grannie, Granzie Margie, Grandma and Nanette by her grandkids. She was a faithful viewer of Dale Thompson’s Sunday services.

Margie’s house was a welcome rest area for all of her family. She enjoyed making candy that she shared with her family and friends at her bank, post office, beauty shop, grocery store, with her sanitation workers as well as anyone who dropped by. She celebrated her 87th birthday party at Crystal Palace Skating Center among extended family and friends. She was an instructor at Jean Kirby Beauty College, worked at Kroger Value Village and retired from Sears.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Charlene and George Boley, Terry and Pam Guthrie, Linda and Tony McDaniel, Gary and Sharon Guthrie, Tammy Varner and Kenny Clark; and two stepsons, Phillip and Sheila Thomas, and Ronnie and Malinda Thomas. Her grandchildren include Greg Boley, Steven Eubanks and Lisa, Kathy Abshere and Steve, Monte Whitson and Mandy, Heather Harvey, Velvet and Jeff Barrows, Jerala Medlock, Mondria Hamilton, Brooke and Nathan Elliott, Amara and Kevin Bufkin, Carissa Abdelaal and Joseph, Michael McDaniel and Kristen, Misty Baker and Mark, Matthew McDaniel and Christine, Angela Weaver, Allison Guthrie, Robert Cochran and Tracy, Sandy Kreulach and Karl, Bryan Thomas, Kris Thomas, Emilee Thomas, Curtis Varner, Cody Varner, Hunter Clark, Dustin Clark, and Jennifer Guthrie, daughter of the late Larry Guthrie; and great grandchildren Joshua, Jerika and Jayden Abshere, Tristan Boley, Tanner, Tori and Amaya Whitson, Sascha Harvey, Addison Graham, Cassidy Garner, Seanie Evans, Taylor Lunsford, Sabin Hice, Grant, Ethan and Ayla Elliott, Zach and Jacob McDaniel, Marcus, LoganMarie and Matty Baker, Jaylon McDaniel, Kalon and Andrew Tuck, Seth Posey, Hunter and Grey Cochran, Brandon and Austin Kreulach, Milo Thomas, Lila Marie Thomas, and Lance Varner, II.

Graveside service will be Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 11:00am at the Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith on Wednesday, March 9th from 6 – 8pm.
