

Mary Agnes Schoen Smith passed April 20, 2014, at 3:15 am, at Crawford Health and Rehab, in Van Buren, losing her battle to Parkinson’s disease. She was born June 18, 1926, to Theresa and Joe Schoen, Sr of Barling, Arkansas. A lifelong resident of Fort Smith, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Paul H. Smith. She was a faithful member of the previous Massard Methodist Church. She was best known for her beautiful smile, outgoing and caring nature. After her children reached Senior and Junior High School, she went back to school, attending St. Edwards nursing Center. She graduated with honors as LPN in 1966. She worked as a surgical nurse at St. Edwards Hospital and later retired from AHEC Clinic, in 1984, to take care of Paul until his death. She is survived by her son, Dan P. Smith and wife Donna of Hot Springs, Arkansas; two daughters, Paula Baggett and husband Bill of Chester, Arkansas and Mary Ann Seahorn and husband George Wyatt of Fort Smith; one sister Bernadine Amlaw of Newport, New York; three brothers, Raymond Schoen of Midland, Arkansas, Otto Schoen of Marlow, Oklahoma and Joe Schoen, Jr of Barling, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Jill Estep of Van Buren, Lance Smith of Van Buren, Grant Smith of Alma, Roy Baggett of Chester, Joe Smith of Denver, Colorado, Carol Ann Seahorn of Fort Smith and Kortni Beene of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; seven great grandchildren, Bailey and Will Baggett of Chester, Megan and Rylee Smith of Van Buren, Clint Braswell of Van Buren and Karington and Delany of Arkadelphia. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Fort Smith National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Edwards Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Lance and grant Smith, Clint Braswell, Kevin Estep, Roy and Will Baggett.
