Michael Len Jones

Michael Len Jones, 71 of Fort Smith, AR. Passed away on November 5, 2022. Mike was born on April 6, 1951 to Ralph and Ollie (Oliver) Jones in Torrance, CA. Growing up in a military family Mike and his three siblings moved around a lot, but he spent most of his time growing up in Arkansas. He attended AR Tech for a degree in music and got his masters in music at the University of North Texas. He taught music for 38 years in numerous schools around Arkansas, but spent the last 27 years at Van Buren high school helping build up their band program.

Music was Mike’s life winning multiple awards, being a part of the Fort Smith community orchestra, helping at UFAS, judging and participating in multiple competitions, and of course being a part of the music department of his church. When Mike wasn’t playing music he loved to ride his motorcycle, being outdoors and appreciating nature, traveling, and spending time with his family. Mike never met a stranger and was always there as a helping hand to many.

Mike is survived by his wife Debera Jones, children Chris (Kathy) Jones, Kimberly (Chuck Wright) Clark, step children Zechariah (Chelsey Mathews) Thompson, Amie Hall, grandchildren Jackson Hightower, Riley Hightower, Kyle Clark, Austin Clark, Catheryn Wright, Emily Jones, Christopher Jones, Lilly Mathews, sibling Jim (Lilli) Jones, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Ollie Jones, siblings Terry Babbs and Louis Jones.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 116 N 12th St., Fort Smith, AR at 11:00 am on Saturday November 12th, 2022.
