

Nora Lou Lee Miller, resident of Van Buren, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 24, 2012 in her home, with her daughters by her side. Nora Lou was born October 17, 1934, in Dover, AR to George and Floy Jones Lee. She was raised in Fort Smith, graduating from Fort Smith High School. She was attending Westark Community College when she married Teryl Miller in 1955 at Midland Blvd. Church of Christ.
Nora Lou worked writing radio commercials for KFPW in Fort Smith and for WJLK, in New Jersey, while Teryl served in the Army. His term also took them to Redstone Arsenal Base in Huntsville, Alabama, where she worked for Chrysler Corporation's Missile Division. After returning to Fort Smith, she worked for the Employment Security Division and later completed her BS in Education at UA Fayetteville. During her 22 years as a teacher at Southside and Van Buren High Schools, she taught business typing, shorthand and accounting, and sponsored FBLA before retiring in 1994. She enjoyed taking many school-sponsored group trips abroad and joined the Write Your Life Story class, which she enjoyed attending weekly for many years.
Nora Lou was a member of Westark Church of Christ and Delta Kappa Gamma teaching sorority. Nora was an officer for the Fort Smith Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a past board member for Oak Cemetery. Nora was a member of several area genealogy and historical associations, and she helped many people with genealogy at the Fort Smith Public Library as a volunteer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Teryl Miller. Nora Lou is survived by her two daughters, Kelley and husband Bob Robinson, of Van Buren, Kristy Hanson and her husband Bill of Fort Smith, and four grandchildren Marshall and Teryl Robinson and Blake and Mia Hanson. In addition, she leaves behind her brother and sister-in-laws, Roger and Pat Lee, Van and Judy Lee, her sister, Vicki Lee, and many nieces and nephews.
A very special thank-you to Lori Luse, Nora's friend and personal caregiver for many years. Her family will be forever grateful to nurses Christina Mosley , Dina Treece, and the entire Peachtree Hospice team who made it possible for her to stay in her home.
The family will welcome friends and relatives at Edward's Funeral Home in Fort Smith from 5:00 PM-6:30 PM Thursday, January 26, 2012. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2012 in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with Pastor Barry Morton officiating. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren, Arkansas.
Pallbearers will be her nephews Dwayne Lee, Luke Lundstrum, Phillip Bryant, Jay Maze, Geoffrey Wayne and Alex Wayne. Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Webb, Ronald Ray and past faculty and staff of Southside High School and Van Buren High School.
