Norman E. Nelson

Norman E. Nelson, 78 of Fort Smith, AR passed away Saturday, June 30th, 2012. He was born on January 26, 1934 in Hartwell, West Virginia. He was a retired truck driver for Ryder Truck Rentals, a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church, a Freemason for over 50 years and a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Nelson; an infant daughter; the mother of his children, Betty Nelson; his birth parents, Georgie Nelson and Dexter Sparks; his foster parents, Tom and Nanny Dunsford and a brother, Ermal Sparks.

Services will be 9:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Fentress Mortuary Chapel with Interment to follow at Fort Smith National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife Sherry, of the home; two daughters, Chyrel Ryan and Norma Jolley; one son, Darrell Nelson, three stepsons, Don, Ray and Glenn Scantlan; a cousin, Vergie Sparks; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Mack, Charlie Bowman, John Clayton, Jr. and Dean Pendergrass. Honorary Pallbearers will be Arnie Nelson and the Bay Station C.B. Friends.

Family will greet friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Monday at the funeral home.
