Phillip Ray Hogan, Sr. was born February 13, 1947 in Dora, Arkansas to Joe Ray and Juanita Ballenger Hogan. He passed away November 5, 2021 in his home at Dora. He is survived by his fiancée and the love of his life, Dianne Hardgrave. He has three sons, Phillip, Jr and Deborah Hogan, Ben and Chelsea Hogan, and Justin Hogan, one daughter, Becky “Cate” and Jackie Hoffarth. He was blessed with seven granddaughters and one grandson, Jessica Coleman, Sarah Brunson, Jake, and Ella Hoffarth, Emily Brown, Lariat, Dallie, and JoRae Hogan, and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a sister, Marilyn Lewis, niece, Christi Wilson, nephew, James Reichert and a host of cowboy friends.
His first job was selling ice cream in the allies of the Fort Smith Stockyards and his last job was buying cattle there. His desire was always to be around livestock and cattlemen.
He was a cowboy all his life. He was a longtime member of the International Rodeo Association, the Cowboys Regional Rodeo Association and, later, the Senior Pro Rodeo Association. He competed in calf roping, steer wrestling, and team roping.
Honorary pallbearers are Marvin Holland, Jr., Lonnie Younger, Bobbie Hill, Joe Herbert, Budge Herbert, Doug Bailey, Tommy Blevins, Wally Hays Jr., Ronnie Dean, Allen Hales, Sr., Butch Hardgrave and Eugene Bradford.
Visitation will be Monday, November 8 from 5-7 pm at Edwards Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be on Tuesday, November 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Edwards Chapel in Fort Smith. Interment will be at Dora Cemetery.
