

Robert C. Sturdivant, born to Bessie and Clem Sturdivant in Tulsa, Oklahoma on October 3, 1923, passed away in Fort Smith on Wednesday, November 25, 2009. Bob was a World War II veteran serving as an ensign on PT Boats in the United States Navy in the Pacific. He participated in the last great sea battle in the Philippines and was one of the first Americans to set foot on Japanese soil after the Atom bomb was dropped. Bob was married to Marguerite for 65 years and was a member of Fianna Hills Baptist Church. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.Bob was a landman for Texas Oil and Gas until he retired in 1983. He played a significant role in the start up of the office in Fort Smith and trained many men and women to become successful oilmen. Bob was a man of integrity, with a wonderful sense of humor and a loving heart filled with kindness. He was truly a man of God and will be missed by many.Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 28th, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with Pastor Ken Stadler officiating. Grave services will follow at 2:00 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.Bob is survived by his wife, Marguerite, sons Robert Clifton and Daniel Wade and daughter Lynn Sturdivant Baker as well as 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.Pallbearers will be Mike Baker, Doug Black, Jim Bruning, Matt Northcutt, Clay Sturdivant and Mike West.Visitation with the family will be Friday at Edwards Funeral Home from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
