Ron enjoyed many things in life. From being a veteran, fishing with buddies, riding his motorcycle, working, grandkids, and deer hunting. His deer hunting was the one place he could get close to God and think of life’s deepest wonders. He loved his buddies and his family that had the opportunity to share that with him. His soul was refreshed being in the woods and he looked forward to it every year.
Ron attended Fairview Elementary, Ramsey Jr. High and then Southside High School, he played Football and excelled as a Linebacker. He graduated in May 1968.
In 1969 he was drafted into the Army to serve in Vietnam with the Fourth Infantry division 1/10 Cav Buffalo Soldiers. He came home in 1971 at the rank of Specialist 4. Life after the Army was not the same for him when he returned home. It was hard in many ways but he persevered with the help of many including his fellow Vietnam Veteran comrades, which he thought very highly of. Ron received the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Rifle Expert Marksmanship Badge, Machine Gun and Sharp Shooter Auto Rifle Marksmanship Badge, National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal.
After his return he worked for Harding Glass until it shut down in the mid 70s, AAA U-Rent-It, then he went on to work at Fort Smith Boat Sales as a salesman, later retiring from Whits Marine.
