On September 21st, 2025, Shirley Ann Craig left earth to be with Jesus. She was just a little more than 2 months away from celebrating her 90th birthday so we thank God for all the time we had with her but know that now she is leaping like a gazelle in heaven, no longer bound by a walker. She beat cancer, stroke, leukemia and many other ailments because she was tough! But that didn’t overshadow her loving demeanor and kindness that she shared with everyone who knew who and especially those she loved. We will all miss her greatly but know that we will see her again one day.
Shirley graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1953 and worked in many roles and jobs but most importantly she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and daughter. She retired from Edwards Funeral Home in 1997 and lived in Fort Smith until 2020 before moving to North Carolina to live near her family who lived there.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Howard Craig and Jewell Craig, her son Charles Wayne Scamardo, Jr. as well as 4 sisters (Ruby, Betty, Maebelle and Barbara) a brother, Jack Hood and a daughter-in-law, Teresa Scamardo.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Earl Craig of Cleveland, Oklahoma; son’s Brad Scamardo of Salisbury NC and Tim and his wife Patti Scamardo of Gastonia NC; 5 grandchildren (Lauren and Matthew Scamardo of Fort Smith, Arkansas ; Michael and Meredith Scamardo of Gastonia, North Carolina; Kyle Anthony Scamardo) and 5 great-grandchildren as well as many, more cousins, nieces and nephews than anyone can count.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 26th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home, 201 North 12th Street, Fort Smith, AR 72901. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, September 27th at 11:00 AM At Forest Park Cemetery, 5001 Midland Blvd, Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.
