Stephen Lynn Whitson

Stephen Lynn Whitson, 62, of Greenwood, died October 1, 2013 in Greenwood. He was born August 22, 1951 in Fort Smith to Ben and Lila L. Maxey Whitson. He was retired after 32 years of service as a Master Sgt from the 188th Fighter Wing Air National Guard of Fort Smith, AR and the Civil Service. He was a 37 year member of the Buffalo Buzzards and active member of Rye Hill Baptist Church, and the Rye Hill Men’s Sunday School Class. Steve was a man with a humble spirit and heart of gold who met the needs of many. He is survived by his wife Mickie Whitson of the home; one daughter, Suzanne Whitson George and husband John Brian of Witcherville, AR; two brothers, Mike Whitson of Fort Smith and Kim Alan Whitson and wife Janine also of Fort Smith; two grandchildren, Breanna Skye and Jessica Storm George; sister’s in law, Marilyn and husband Andrew Chanos of Parker, CO and Marsha Robison of Tulsa, OK., and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Lila Whitson; mother and father in law, Pat and Lois Robison and brother in law Pat Robison, Jr. Funeral service will be Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Rye Hill Baptist Church under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the Funeral Service also under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Michael and Alan Whitson, Trey and Tye Robison, and Jason and Todd Chanos. Honorary pallbearers will be the Rye Hill Baptist Men’s Sunday School Class, Randall Gunter, Jay Wiechert, Gary Gunter, Jim Fraley, Charlie Mitchael, members of Buffalo Buzzard’s and current and retired members of the 188th Fighter Wing of the Air National Guard of Fort Smith. The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Monday evening from 5-7 PM.
