

Sylviah Jean (Gossett) Kupers, 75, of Fort Smith, passed from this life July 19, 2015 in Fort Smith. She was born March 23, 1940 in Hon, Arkansas, to the late Howard Jewell & Ocie Beatrice (Newman) Gossett. Sylviah’s first job was in the accounting department at Donrey Media Group in Fort Smith, and then she worked for several companies in Fort Smith, Springdale, Pennsylvania and the US Virgin Islands. She took the test and became an Enrolled Agent and had her own Bookkeeping & Tax practice in Pennsylvania, and then had a practice with her husband in Fort Smith. She was a member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member and Past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile. She was also very active in Scimitar Shrine Temple where her husband is a Past Potentate. She graduated from Mansfield High School in 1958, attended Draughn Business College and took accounting and bookkeeping courses after she started working. She was a licensed amateur radio operator since 1976. She enjoyed cooking (especially for family), and sewing including her own clothes and clothes for her family. She was a member of Fianna Hills Baptist Church in Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband Ron Kupers; sons, William J. Kupers and his wife Patty, David C. Kupers and his wife Sherry and Jeffrey G. Kupers and his wife Janet; a sister Katie Jean (Gossett) Hice; two brothers, Richard Gossett and his wife Brenda and Howard Gossett and his wife Carla; two granddaughters, Sydney and Claire; five grandsons Kendell, Edie, Chad, Seth and Luke. She was preceded in death by her brother William James Gossett.
A public committal will be 10:00am Friday, July 24, 2015 at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith with a memorial service to follow at 11:00am at Fianna Hills Baptist Church. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Edwards Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
