

Terry James Harvel, 59, of Van Buren, went home to be with his Lord and Savior February 13, 2014 in Van Buren. He was born December 10, 1954, in Fort Smith, to the late Raybon Leo and Mary Retha Harvel. Terry was a 1972 graduate of Northside High School. After high school, he attended Westark Community College. Terry joined the Fort Smith Fire Department in 1978 and retired, with twenty-five years of service, as Captain. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church. He also operated his own business, Harvel Custom Trim and Paint, remodeling houses and helping his wife, Brenda in her real estate career. So much so, he was made an honorary realtor. Terry loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He had just taught his daughter, Lindsey to fly-fish. Terry is survived by his wife of almost 39 years, Brenda Kay; his daughters, who he loved taking care of, Tara Limbird and her husband Nicholas of Bentonville and Lindsey Harvel of Van Buren; his granddaughter, Ellie Brooke, but better known to her “Paw” as “Little El”; two brothers, Ronnie Harvel and his wife Rosemary of Clinton, Mississippi and Jackie Harvel and his wife Laura of Alma; a sister, Mary Palmer and her husband Earl of Fort Smith. He is also survived by his sister in law, Phyllis Wright and her husband Bobby of Van Buren; brother in laws, Buddy Walters and his wife Beth of Fort Smith and Gary Walters of Van Buren. Funeral services, with Fort Smith Fire Department honors, will be 11:00am Monday, February 17, 2014 at Faith Baptist Church in Jenny Lind under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home, 201 North 12th, Fort Smith, Arkansas. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00pm Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers will be Keith Jones, Wade Garcia, Terry Bigler, Shannon Daniels, Dwayne Hartman and Gabe Flanigan. Honorary pallbearers will be Marcus Brown, Rick Rainwater, Butch Gilyard, Stanley Releford, Jimmy Dunn, Brandon Sharp and all his Fort Smith Fire Department brothers past, present and future. The Family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made, in Terry’s name, to Faith Baptist Church, 14511 Old Jenny Lind Loop, Fort Smith, Arkansas 72916.
