

Walter Ford McReynolds, age 87 of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on September 18, 2011 in his home surrounded by the love and care of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Ford was born January 17, 1924 in Hattieville, Arkansas the sixth of seven children of Walter Kay and Myrtle McReynolds.
He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and he received a bronze star for his actions during the battle of Saipan.
Ford earned a Bachelor's degree from State Teachers College in Conway and a Master's degree in Education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, Arkansas. Ford taught math and was the high school principal at Wilmot, Arkansas as well as serving as the high school principal at Jacksonville High School.
Ford later owned a school bus supply company for several years and he finished his working career at the age of 81 as the Transportation Director for the Van Buren School District.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Louise in 1999. after 53 years of marriage. Ford was the proud father of three daughters, Debra Robinson, Mindy McReynolds, and Amy White; the proud grandfather of five granddaughters, Katie Garrett, Jessica White, Lindsay Mars, Ann Perry, and Molly Perry; and the proud great grandfather of Samuel White, Hannah and Max Mars, and Ava Garrett.
Ford McReynolds was known as a quiet, gentle man; a smart, honest, and fair person who treated everyone he met with courtesy and kindness. He has been loved by many friends and co-workers and he was adored and respected by his family.
Ford was the finest man his family has ever known and he will be loved and missed always. We are lifted up however, by the knowledge that he is reunited with Louise and his family in heaven.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 22, 2011 in the chapel at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith, with a short graveside service following at Oak Cemetery with Military Honors.
Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be John Dobbs and members of the Transportation Department of Van Buren Public Schools.
The family will visit with friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM at the Funeral Home.
