

Allan Gernhardt, 91, was a committed disciple of Jesus Christ, a devoted husband to Ruth Ann (Olson) Gernhardt, a father of six, grandfather to ten and great-grandfather to five. He passed away peacefully in his home with family present, on February 1, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann (Olson) Gernhardt, infant son Steven Wayne Gernhardt, parents Jesse and Mary Emily Gernhardt, brother Edwin and twin brother Arthur Gernhardt, infant brother Donald Lee Gernhardt, as well as sister Carol Ann Carey. He is survived by his children, Lisa (John)Blake, Mark (Diana) Gernhardt, Phyllis Gerhardt, Mary Ellen (Dan)Loisel, Aaron (MacKenzie) Gernhardt, grandchildren, Micah Blake, Melissa Boyer, Hannah Kryko, Rachel Ferguson, Evan Gernhardt, Steven Gernhardt, Isaiah Gernhardt, Joseph Gernhardt, Levi Gernhardt, Anna Gernhardt, great-grandchildren, Grace, Mary, Lucy, Kaylee, and Jonathan. Allan was a faithful pastor. He devoted his life to share the Gospel of Christ with everyone he met. His outreach extended well beyond local, to national and international missions. In his latter years, he enthusiastically supported the Concordia Lutheran Marching Cadets of Fort Wayne. Four of his grandchildren are current or former members of the band. He regularly attended performances and practices, where he brought drinks and snacks for all band and color guard members. He was affectionately named band "Grandpa", a title he cherished. A visitation for Allan will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne, IN 46804. A funeral service will occur Friday, February 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Greenlawn Funeral Home.
