Tony was a great man and when I was growing up he took me in to his construction company and taught me a lot about the business. He also showed me how things on the farm and a real work ethic. He was an amazing family friend and will be missed. Blessed to have known him and the entire Mannes family.

I always thought it was awesome that I had a grandparent that loved horses as much as I did.  I remember you putting Andy and I on Capone and Silver and walking around the farm and up and down the lane, I thought we were so cool!  I felt so special that you would use the coffee mug I gave you when I was little, and you used it until you couldn't anymore!   You have given us an amazing heritage that I will always treasure, you belong to all of us and I will miss you very much. I love you

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Tony personally. But Marta, I sure remember you and I thought of you quite often wondering how you are doing. Judy Queen wondered if that was your husband and was trying to check on her computer but she could not do so so I told her I would check and get back with her. I will call her and tell her yes it is. I forgot that you have seven daughters. Wow! Life has slowed down for me. I'm still playing the organ at St Mark's in Monroeville. But I cannot get up to the platform without somebody lifting my legs up to the next step. So for Easter Sunday I played a Casio keyboard which had a pipe organ setting. It works all right but I do miss the regular organ. I was going through physical therapy and occupational therapy but that is ended. I trust a new order will be made for me. I'm not trying to drive right now so I have friends that have driven my car and I try to reimburse them but many of them don't want to take what I offer them. I turned 82 on March 11th. These are the golden years, ha! I do want to express my condolences to you regard to your husband's passing. I wish I could see you in person but I won't be able to. My prayers are with you and your family!

I’m sorry for the pain your family is feeling. So many memories. Christi and I riding one of Tonys horses and the dog biting the horses leg, off I flew. The sausage Tony made from his pigs. The farm he created to raise his family. Tony was an amazing man. Love to you all. 


I’m so sorry for your loss.  Tony was such a nice guy.  I remember when we moved in across the road, he told your mom that giants had moved in, as we were all tall.  Spent alot of time at your house and good memories, even swimming in duck poop pond.  I will cherish the memories as all of you should also.  Again, sorry for losing him.

To our beloved and treasured father and Ota- your life of sacrifice, devotion, and determination will give us the strength to get through the remainder of our days without you here on Earth. Christie had tried to take her parents to see the Grand Canyon years before, but it snowed and it couldn't be seen.  Made us so very happy to be able to take them for their 50th Wedding Anniversary and have clear views (although very cold!).

There were some great times (seeing the canyon) and sadly we all got sick apart from Christie.  Ota loved Oak Creek, said the mountains reminded him of where he grew up. 

Ota always asked after my parents whenever I saw him.  He always regretted not having more time to get to know them.

I first met Christies dad (Ota) over 10 years ago, and he charmed me from the start!  He was such a gentleman.  I loved to listen to his stories of his life, both his amazing escape during WW2 and of re-making his life here in the USA.  Christie told me about what a good life she had growing up - the farm - a pond/small lake built for fishing and swimming, horses, cattle (and the stories about both escaping!), haymaking, soccer (football!) and the history of the Sports Club, and so much more.   I have some wonderful memories of just sitting on the swing he built with him, enjoying the sunshine.   I feel for Christie, Marta and their family.  He was such a presence!  I will miss him so.

On the Mannes Family Farm, the hands of a steadfast son built a home for his parents. 
     A protective brother built and shared his farm with his sisters and their families. 
     A farmer worked the land alongside his cousins and their families. 
     A loving husband built a dream to share with his wife. 
     A devoted father who provided for the needs of his children on the land that he worked and loved. 
     An adoring Otah gathered his grandchildren, great-grandchild, and step-great-grandchildren around him to continue his legacy. 
     A lifelong friend whose support for his friends was never-ending. 
     From the hands of a carpenter, a farmer, faithful steward of the land. Through vision, hard work, and love, Tony Mannes created a life in a new land. 
     Anton (Tony) Mannes was an immigrant who dreamt of the promise of a new life in his adopted homeland. 
On this land, he succeeded. 
Well done, good and faithful servant.
