Barbara Jean McCloud-Walker (affectionately known as “Barb”) was born Sunday, April 19, 1970, to Willie Sr. and Trucilla “Cookie” McCloud in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was the youngest of four siblings.
Barbara met the love of her life, Donald Walker, at a little bank branch at Anthony and McKinnie in Fort Wayne, Indiana. What began as a simple first date—October 21, 1991, to a haunted house up through November 2, 1996 —grew into a beautiful love story. They were united in holy matrimony on November 2, 1996, at Greater Mount Ararat Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Shortly after their wedding, they moved from Indiana to begin their life together in Tennessee. They were blessed with a strong marriage of nearly 30 years until Barbara’s transition to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
In Tennessee, Barbara joined New Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Murfreesboro under the leadership of Clyde E. Gresham, where she was baptized on September 8, 2024. She was an active member who served as president of the Hospitality Committee and supported the Youth Department, teaching Sunday School on the second Sunday of each month.
After graduating from South Side High School in Fort Wayne in 1988, Barbara became a licensed hairstylist. Over the years, she worked at Fort Wayne National Bank, Lincoln Life Insurance Company, and later at Regions Bank in Tennessee.
Barbara’s love for baking and crafting was inspired by her mother and grandmother. That influence led her to create “Lillie B’s Divine Sweets,” and she became known for her delicious cakes and caramel popcorn (with or without pecans). She also inherited her mother’s knack for cooking and lovingly carried on family favorites in her own kitchen, using those cherished recipes to create a cookbook for her siblings titled “No Place Like Home Cooking”. Barbara loved being with family and friends—talking, laughing, cooking, and taking long drives down country roads. She also had a special gift for creating thoughtful gift baskets and handmade items, which she sold at craft shows throughout Tennessee. Barb was handy with tools as well; she even bought a saw and put it to use in her kitchen, building shelves near the ceiling to make the most of the space. Her big personality brought joy and energy into every room.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Donald Walker; her father, Willie McCloud Sr.; her mother-in-law, Bertha Walker; her siblings, Willie (Sabrena) McCloud Jr., Trucilla (Trudi) McCloud, and Thomas McCloud; and a large host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Trucilla (Cookie) McCloud, and her nephew, Willie (Trey) McCloud III.
Today as we commit Barbara’s life to our remembrance and her soul to God’s care. May we honor her by loving one another well, showing up for family, and offering help with the same generosity she did. And when we think of Barbara, may we hear her laughter, feel her warmth, and be comforted by the gift of having known her. She will be deeply missed—by family, friends, and everyone whose life was brighter because she was in it.
