

Bonnie Jean Schoppman, 79, of Fort Wayne passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Terrace Assisted Living in Fort Wayne. She was born February 4, 1945 in Fort Wayne to Philip and Alice (Koontz) Schoppman.
Bonnie graduated from Central High School in 1963. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for many years as an ICU Nurse at Lutheran Hospital while attending Indiana University in Fort Wayne. She earned her degree in Political Science and Sociology in 1977. She was proud that she graduated without a college debt to pay. She worked at Lincoln Life in Employee Benefits using her degree and her nursing education. She left Lincoln and finished her career at Cameron Hospital in Angola, Indiana. Always a nurse with a heart for helping people she returned to nursing many time. When someone would ask, “So, you are a retired nurse?” Bonnie would quickly reply, “I am still a nurse.” Although she knew that she would not return to working as a nurse, she renewed her license every four years.
Bonnie was very active in the Fort Wayne and Angola communities. She was active with CASA –Court Appointed Special Advocate-and helped more than 200 children in her more than 26 years as a volunteer. She was member of Delta Sigma Kappa Sorority. She was active in Friends of the Library at Carnegie Public Library of Steuben County and Angola Women’s Club. In Fort Wayne she volunteered for Three Rivers Festival and Johnny Appleseed Festival. Bonnie was an officer with Adopt a Greyhound of Indiana and rescued and adopted two Greyhounds.
She loved reading and spending time at Hogback Lake where she lived for many years. She is survived by two sisters, Barbara and Susan Schoppman; sister in law Kim Schoppman, nephew, Curtis (Heather) Setser; niece, Amanda (Jason) Schoppman-Bear; five great nieces and nephews, Zachary Bear, Alexis Bear, Luke Setser, Alexander Bear and Jordyn Setser and three great-great nieces, Adeline, Amelia and Isabella. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Philip Schoppman.
A celebration of Bonnie’s life will be at 11 am on Friday, January 31, 2025 at Trinity English Lutheran Church. With visitation 9am – 11am.
