

On Thursday, November 15, 2018, Carmen Amelia Liechty, loving wife and mother of three children, passed away at home at the age of 77. Carmen was born in 1941 in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico to Jesús and Leonor (Santiago) Colón. She received her practical nursing diploma in 1964 and worked as a licensed practical nurse in Aibonito, Puerto Rico. On June 6, 1970, she married John Daniel Liechty. In 1973, they moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. She served as a nursing assistant for almost 40 years at Parkview Hospital Randallia, working in newborn nursery, pediatrics and the Family Birthing Center. Carmen had a strong faith in the Lord and calling for service. She devoted her life to caring for others at work, at home, and at church. She attended Blackhawk Ministries. She loved gospel music, supporting missions, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Carmen was preceded in death by her father, Jesús, and her mother, Leonor. She is survived by her husband, John Daniel Liechty of Fort Wayne; her three children, Johnathan Liechty (Konni) and Janelle Jacob (Daniel) of Fort Wayne, Janette Resendez (Roel) of Bluffton, Indiana; her brothers, Hector Jesús Colón (Sonia) of Kissimmee, Florida, Antolín Colón (Erma) of Sarasota, Florida, Angel Enrique Colón (Janette) of Goshen, Indiana; her sisters, Maria Luisa Espada, Teresa de Jesús Colón, Mercedes Colón, and Ana Colón of Aibonito, Puerto Rico; her grandchildren, Lily Liechty, Cameron Jacob, and Coleten Jacob of Fort Wayne; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at D. O. McComb and Sons - Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Rd., Fort Wayne, Indiana, 46815.
