Charolet A. Moss went home to meet her Savior on Friday, November 1, 2024 at her home in Fort Wayne, IN at the age of 103. She was born on August 21, 1921 in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Louis Walter and Gussie Jaeger. Charolet was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In October, 1942, she married Robert G. Moss, a United Methodist pastor, and eventual WWII Army Veteran. For 60 years, they served together at churches in Plainfield, Pocahontas and Cedar Falls, Iowa and she as well supported her husband as he served at Doane College in Nebraska and Albion College in Michigan. Their later years in ministry led them to the North Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church where they were founding members of Covenant United Methodist Church on Coldwater Road, making Fort Wayne their permanent home. When her husband was president of Homebound Meals, she volunteered and helped to deliver meals to community seniors. Together they were involved in multiple ministries and organizations over the years, but most importantly were committed to building the church and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Charolet was a dedicated Christian from childhood, making service to Christ and the church her life even before she met and married Bob. She continued to serve it as long as she was physically able following his death in 2003. Her other main priority was her family. Throughout her entire life, she sought to keep them together and bonded unfailingly sharing with them her faith and the Word of God. There was no more important purpose in her life than reaching her own family for Christ.
As a young woman, she studied music, becoming an accomplished pianist. She recounted stories of her father working for the well-known architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, as well as memories told to her from relatives who lived in Chicago during the Great Chicago Fire.
Charolet is survived by sons John R. and Jeffrey H., both of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren, Jordan (Kylee) Moss of Columbia City, Janelle Moss of Chicago, IL, Justin Moss and Jessica Moss, both of Fort Wayne and five great-grandchildren, Karrington, Mollee and Navee (Columbia City) and Rylinn and Leon of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Rev. Col. Robert G. Moss, son Joel G. (Michelle) Moss, sister, Janette Hanson, and great-grandchild, Madison. The family would like to honor and thank those dear friends who cared so well for Charolet during her final year, especially Edith Miller, who gave her such devoted love and friendship.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Covenant United Methodist Church, 10001 Coldwater Rd., Fort Wayne, IN. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm, concluding with the service at 7:00 pm.
