Connie Sue (Workman) Conn, born April 7, 1949, age 75, was surrounded in the hospital by her loving family, as she departed from her physical sufferings in this world into her heavenly home, on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. As she crossed that glorious threshold, she most assuredly was embraced by Christ her Savior and heard the words, “Welcome home my sweet daughter. You’ve been such a good and faithful servant.”
Her meeting party in Heaven included her parents Henry “Bud” Grover and Mona Jean (Rumbaugh) Workman; brother, Danny Workman; and brother-in-law, Chuck Harter; as well as her father-and-mother-in-law, Richard and Marcellyn (Henry) Conn.
Those rejoicing with her, yet feeling her absence greatly while remaining behind are her loving husband, since May 16, 1969, of 55 years - James “Jim” Richard Conn; three daughters, Angela (Javier) Ponce, Amy (Bryan) Zimmerman, and Danielle (Matthew) Bradley; as well as her six grandchildren, Bethany Ponce, Rebecca Ponce, Drew Zimmerman, Bryson Zimmerman, Cody Zimmerman, and Owen Bradley. Also feeling her absence greatly, yet celebrating with her are her sisters, Lucy Harter and Debbie (Paul) Dreger; brother, Henry “Hank” Workman; sisters-in-law, Debbie Workman and Jodi (Chuck) DeFord. She will also be missed by her many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Connie achieved many things while with us. She graduated from North Side High School in 1967, then from IUPU Fort Wayne with a Dental Assistant Degree in 1969, then went on to work in the dental profession for many years. Connie partnered with her husband, Jim, in pastoral ministry for 31 years. She also was involved in local, state, and national ministries, as well as serving as the State President of the Women of the Church of God in Michigan for 6 years. Connie enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking for her family, vacationing with them, going on excursions with her husband, antiquing with her brother and sisters and going to plays. Her greatest joys were attending as many of her grandchildren’s music programs, plays, and sporting events.
Connie drew people to her because of her sparkling smile, infectiously fun spirit, hilarious wit, take charge personality, unifying and inclusive spirit, personable approach, care for all from all walks of life…however, Connie’s unequivocal obedience to the Lord will be remembered most by her loved ones. Connie did not simply raise her children. She fulfilled the calling God placed upon her heart to live, breathe, and speak God’s truth into the lives of each of her girls from the day they were born until the day she stepped into Heaven, thus inspiring her daughters to each take up the Lord’s call to do the same with their children. Her sons-in-law were each thought of as the sons she never had. As God placed a call on her life for her girls, she also was charged by God to invest in each of her sons-in-laws’ lives in which tremendously powerful relationships bloomed from her time spent with each of them. Her grandchildren also were blessed by her steadfastness to the Lord as she shared her faith in God openly with them and the hope that can only be found in Christ. Connie was led by God to marry the love of her life, Jim. Her marriage was yet another mission field in which to flesh out Christ, work alongside her husband in ministry and encourage, challenge, and inspire him in Christ. Jim often came home to find Connie sitting at her kitchen table, studying her Bible and journaling. He knew her to be a ruthless prayer warrior and fervent follower of Christ as well as the best help mate to ever walk the earth. No greater teammate would he ever know nor any greater love. Connie’s most fervent wish in life was for every person – no matter who they were, where they were from, or what they had done, to know Jesus Christ as their Savior and know all the blessings, hope, freedom, and inner peace that come from a personal walk with Him.
Jim, his girls, sons-in-laws, and grandchildren welcome you to celebrate Connie’s life at 10:30 AM Thursday, August 1 at County Line Church of God, 7716 N County Line Road E, Auburn with calling one hour prior. Friends and family will also be received 4 - 7 PM, Wednesday, July 31 at the church.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the ministries of The Warehouse, 655 Opportunity Drive, Columbia City, IN 46725.
