Don served as a radar-man in the U.S. Navy for two years. After leaving the Navy, he attended DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago, Illinois, where he received his Associate of Arts Degree in Engineering, and worked at Magnavox for thirty years. While attending DeVry Tech, Don realized that he was a sinner and in need of a personal relationship with God. At that point, he asked Jesus Christ to forgive him of his sins and to take control of his life. That made a big difference in his life as he strove to live in obedience to his Savior. After he retired from Magnavox, he and his wife enjoyed volunteering at Shenandoah National Park, Wycliffe Associates (a ministry of Wycliffe Bible Translators), Child Evangelism Fellowship, and the Creation Museum.
Survivors include June, his wife of sixty-one years; four children, Jeffrey Rediger, MD, of Boston, MA; Donna Rediger of Columbia City, IN; Diana (George) Fletcher of Round Hill, VA; and David (Jackie) Rediger of Columbus, OH; and eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Don was preceded in death by two grandchildren, brothers and sister.
