Donald Lee Chevillet Sr., passed away on January 21, 2026, at the age of 98. He was born on January 15, 1928 to the Late Harold and Verna Chevillet, in Detroit, Michigan. He was a resident of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Don Chevillet arrived to Fort Wayne from South Bend in 1959, and from the moment he hit the airwaves he made it clear that he was something different. His introduction to the city was as bold as the career that followed: Don broadcast his first WOWO show from a scaffold four stories above Washington Boulevard positioned in front of the Gaskins Building downtown. The spectacle stopped Fort Wayne in it's tracks, jamming both pedestrian and vehicle as crowds gathered below to watch and listen. It was radio at it's most daring- and it perfectly captured the energy Chevillet brought to the medium.
After more than a decade with WOWO, Chevillet successfully transitioned to television, becoming a familiar and trusted presence in Fort Wayne homes. He went on to achieve iconic status on local TV, most notably at WPTA 21 Alive, where his professionalism, credibility, and connection with viewers mirrored the excellence he brought to radio.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughter, Deb (Mike) Littlejohn; son Chip Chevillet; grandchildren, Josh, Ellen, Joe, Annie; great grandchildren, Ari, Max, and Kit.
Donald is preceded in death by his wife of many beautiful years, Allegra "Sue" Chevillet; his siblings, J.R. and Margaret.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the local Humane Shelter for Animals, in honor of Donald.
