Donna Deaton

DONNA T. DEATON, 87, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at Heritage Park Retirement Home in Fort Wayne. Born Oct. 20, 1930, in Geneva, Ind., she was a daughter of the late Ora A. and Agnes (Boice) Imel. In 1948, Donna graduated from Elmhurst High School. She continued her education at Olivet Nazarene University. On Aug. 7, 1954, she married M. LaMarr Deaton at Southside Church of the Nazarene in Fort Wayne. She retired from Lutheran Hospital in patient information in 2010. Donna and her husband are members of Grace Point Church of the Nazarene. Donna belonged to the Y.M.C.A. and the Home Builder's Association in Fort Wayne. She loved singing and playing the piano. Together she and her sister Marlene, sang on a Christian radio station and at church. She was a phenomenal cook. Donna loved watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and making shopping trips to JCPenney. Survivors include her spouse, M. LaMarr Deaton of Fort Wayne; sons, Michael D. (Annette) Deaton and David B. Deaton, both of Fort Wayne; daughter, Jennifer L. (Peter Janzen) Deaton of New Haven; son-in-law, Kenneth Atkins of Indianapolis; granddaughters, Adrienne Atkins of Indianapolis, Alissa (Jonathan) Miller and Kayla Deaton, both of Fort Wayne, and Katharina Janzen of New Haven; sister, Marlene (Donald) Durick of Fort Wayne; brothers, Kenneth (Nadine) Imel, Richard Imel and Ronald (Connie) Imel, all of Fort Wayne; and sister-in-law, Sue Imel of Fort Wayne. Donna was also preceded in death by her son, John Mark Deaton; daughter, Susan M. Atkins; and sister-in-law, Judy Imel. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, 8611 Mayhew Road, Fort Wayne (IN 46835). Pastor Rex Person officiating. Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at the church. Burial will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. following the funeral service.
