Douglas Eugene Dettmer, 76, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away on Monday July 19, 2021, at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester, IN. Born in Fort Wayne, IN, on March 15, 1945 to Harold C. Dettmer and Edith B. Confer Dettmer, who preceded him in death In 1963 he graduated from Elmhurst High School, and then served in the U.S. Air Force from September 1963 to September 1967, serving one year during the Viet Nam conflict. He married the love of his life Judith A. Merriet on July 11, 1964. Douglas worked for The Kroger Company for 18 years as a Truck Driver, He served his community for 23yrs as a volunteer Fireman and EMT for the South West Fire Department. He is survived by his wife: Judith A. Dettmer, children: Jason D. Dettmer, Dawn (Doug) Hartle, brother Dave (Iryna) Dettmer, grandchildren, Austin D. (Haley) Hartle, Abbie M. (Dalton) Jones, and Tayler Leigh. Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Friday July 30, 2021 at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home 8325 Covington Rd. Fort Wayne, IN 46804 with visitation from 11:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M... Visitation also 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. Thursday July 29, 2021 at the funeral home.
