DOUGLAS GEORGE ROCKNE KNUTH, 84, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015. Born in 1931, in De Pere, Wis., he was a son of Charlotte (Cavil) and Arthur Knuth. Rockne graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1954 with a Bachelors in Business Administration. He played the drums in the marching band at Wisconsin and had a life-long love of music, playing many instruments including the piano, dulcimer, accordion, and harmonica. Rockne served in the Army for two years, then six years in the reserves. He moved to Fort Wayne to take a job with Lincoln National Life Insurance Company in 1957, where he met and married his wife, Dorthy (Hollman) Knuth; she survives him. Rockne retired from Lincoln in 1996 as an Assistant Vice President. He served as the president of the Indiana Association of Underwriting and held many certificates including Fellow, Life Management Institute and Chartered Life Underwriter. He loved to be outdoors; fishing, camping and canoeing with his buddies Jack and Ed; they both preceded him in death. He was active at his church and in many local organizations, but his personal favorite was the River Greenway. His children, Denise (Kathy Kuhn), Mark (Beth) Knuth, and Erica, his beloved wife, Dorthy, and his grandson, Ian George Rockne Knuth, will remember fondly the road trips, camping trips, Dad's "short-cuts," learning to read a map and change a tire, and most of all the terrible jokes of a very good man. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchild, several of his wife's siblings and spouses, the children and grandchildren of his brother and sister, and a large, loud brood of Hollman nieces and nephews, whom he loved as his own. Rockne was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Linsmeyer and her husband, Richard; brother, Carlton "Butch" and his wife, Mary; and several brothers and sisters-in-law from his wife's large family. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity English Lutheran Church, 450 W. Washington Blvd., with viewing at 10 a.m. Showing is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne (IN, 46804).
