Dr. Fiacable was a dedicated physician for more than 40 years, specializing in psychiatry, and devoted his life to serving others with steadiness, humility, and compassion. In the last two decades of his life, he also devoted extensive study to natural medicine, reflecting his determination to help others heal and thrive. He earned his undergraduate degree at Michigan State University and later earned his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine, completing his internship and residency in psychiatry at IU Medical Center.
He was also a proud military veteran who served our country with honor. During his service, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was responsible for a program in psychological testing.
Outside of medicine, Joseph embraced learning with the same intensity—he loved opera music, enjoyed investing, and was an avid reader of nutritional, investment, and self-improvement materials. He was also an avid DVD collector. As a young man, he competed in amateur boxing and was a novice champion (middleweight) in the 1952 Gary Golden Gloves amateur boxing tournament with the Gary CYO—an experience he remembered vividly and spoke of with pride.
A hallmark of Joseph’s life was his commitment to sharing knowledge. He was known for preparing information packets and sending a tremendous number of emails intended to educate, encourage, and support those around him. If you were fortunate enough to share your email address with him, you likely received messages thoughtfully tailored to your needs and interests.
Joseph also found deep purpose in family and community, including time spent coaching football at St. Vincent de Paul for eight years and helping with St. Vincent de Paul speed and agility training camps for seven years alongside his son Steve, proudly coaching his grandsons Stephen, Michael, and Nick.
Joseph is survived by his children, Tony (Kathy) Fiacable of Dallas, Texas, Steve (Cathy) Fiacable of Fort Wayne, and Elizabeth Fiacable, of Asheville, N.C.; grandchildren, Stephen (Lindsey), Michael, Nicholas, Vincent, Ana, Ava, Joey, and Rowan; and brothers, Tom, Philip, and John Fiacable. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Dolores Fiacable; brother, Mike Fiacable; and parents, Anthony and Rose Fiacable.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am, Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1502 E Wallen Rd, Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior. Luncheon to follow at The Msgr. Kuzmich Life Center.
