Eevi Maria Laidroo

Eevi was born in Tallinn, Estonia on December 20, 1933 as the second child to Ardo and Leonore Tarem. Tallinn is the capital of Estonia. In September 1944 the family fled to Germany as the Germans, who had occupied Estonia for the past 4 years, were retreating and the Russians were re-entering Estonia. The fear of deportation to Siberian labor camps was strong, making the escape a must. Reaching the Tallinn harbor by horse and buggy, they were able to catch one of the last German troop carriers still in harbor, accepting civilians. There was sleeping room only on top of big sugar and starch bags. The ship arrived at German occupied Poland and the family, among many other families, became refugees in Germany moving from location to location always ahead of the war zone. After the WW II, they were lucky to find themselves in the USA occupied Germany and under the USA Military Government. Now they were called displaced persons (D.P.) and were housed in D.P camps. The camps were well organized and supervise by the Military. In June of 1949, the family was extremely lucky to be able to immigrate to the USA and settle in Salem, Oregon. Eevi graduated from Salem High School, Oregon State University with B.S. degree, Northwestern P.T. School and in 1989 from IU MSW program. She met Henn while at Northwestern. They got married in 1959 and had two children, Erik and Ingrid. Eevi loved America with all it had to offer. She enjoyed life, working in her professions, playing bridge, crocheting, reading and cooking (especially trying out new recipes). Eevi leaves behind her loving husband, Henn Laidroo; children Erik Laidroo, Ingrid (Bill) Martin; two grandsons, Aaron Laidroo, Braydon (Nicole) Laidroo; and one great-granddaughter, Braelyn Laidroo. Eevi was preceded in death by her parents Leonore and Ardo Tarem; her sisters Astrid Redditt and Anne (Ivar) Saul; and her best friend Bobby Litten. Memorial Service is 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Trinity English Lutheran Church, 450 West Washington Blvd., Fort Wayne, with calling two hours prior (1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m). Inurnment at Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne, at a later date. Preferred memorials to Cancer Services of NE Indiana, Matthew 25, Lutheran Social Services, or Parkview Hospital Foundation.
