

Elsie (Long) Oliver, 89, of Fort Wayne, passed away early Wednesday morning, September 20, 2023. Elsie was born on July 17, 1934 in Columbia City, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Bertha (Hambleton) Long. After 26 years, Elsie retired in 1991 as an inspector of motor assembly at General Electric. She was a member of the Elex Club and served as the first vice president in 1975. Elsie was also a member of the American Legion Post 241 and Eagles 248. She was full of life and a force to be reckoned with. Elsie is most remembered as feisty, ornery, she loved having fun and loved her family fiercely. She enjoyed her time bowling, going to the casino, square dancing, playing cards, quilting, and collecting bells. Elsie's proudest accomplishment was raising her two wonderful children, Garry (Kristina) Oliver and Penny (Oliver) Smith. She cherishes the memories created with her grandchildren, Garry "Matt" (Ramanda) Oliver, Amy (Oliver) Williamson, Adam (John Anderson) Oliver, Jason (Riley) Smith and Trevor (Rachael) Smith. She was also a loving great-grandmother to Jordan (Nathan) Lash, Avin (Issac) Sparkman, Nathan Stringfellow, Daniel Stringfellow, Ahryan Harman, Emma Oliver and Brody Smith. She was also preceded in passing by her eight siblings, Wyllie Long, Blanche (Long) Warren, Frances Long, Eldon "Duke" Long, Helen "Pete" (Long) Warren, Ruth (Long) Tucker, Grace Jean (Long) King and Gladys Long. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46819 with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 23, 2023 and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at the funeral home. Burial to follow the service at Covington Memorial Gardens.
