

Evelyn Heckman, 91, of Fort Wayne passed away September 14, 2024 at Heritage Park Senior Care in Fort Wayne. Evelyn was born on November 10, 1932 to Albert and Elsie (Schmidt) Gumbert. She was the youngest of six children, Lou, Moe, Al, Bob and Bea, all of whom has preceded her in death. She was married to Donald Shultz in 1952 and lived in Huntertown for many years. Together they had three children. Tim, who survives; Mike and Deborah who both preceded her in death. She is survived by two grandchildren, Cathy Shultz and Jeff Ormsby; three great grandsons and many nieces and nephews. She worked for many years as a desk clerk and eventually as the manager of the Northcrest Motor Inn in Fort Wayne. After the motel closed, she was the manager of Quality Inn in Angola and finally a small motel in Auburn. She divorced Donald in 1974 and later met and married George Heckman who also passed away. Evelyn and George lived at Big Long Lake for a few years, before moving to Lake Hamilton, where the resided for several years. She enjoyed fishing and playing cards with her brothers and sisters at the lake. After Georges passing, she moved to Fort Wayne, where she lived in Georgetown Senior Apartments for about 10 years. She had many friends there and would enjoy going to the clubhouse to play cards and bingo. When her health started failing, she moved into Heritage Park Senior Care. She had a wonderful roommate. They would always look out for one another. Before becoming too ill, she enjoyed playing bingo with the other residents. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Advantage Funeral Home - Highland Park, 2403 East Wallen Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46825. Visitation will be from 10:30 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow immediately in Highland Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to hospice.
