In 1951, Fouad immigrated with his family to the United States at the age of 16. The Halaby family moved to Cincinnati where Fouad attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati. Joining the army, he then did his residency at Walter Reed. He finished his military service in Puerto Rico. Fouad then moved to Fort Wayne in 1965 where he started his career as a radiologist at St. Joseph Hospital.
He was responsible for starting Matthew 25. After 28 years at St. Joe, he started Auburn Radiology at DeKalb Hospital in Auburn, IN.
After retiring and having spent many years visiting the Hawaiian Islands, he and Linda built their home on the Big Island of Hawaii, where they have lived for six months out of the year, for the last 11 years.
Fouad was a hot air balloon pilot, enjoying his sport for 24 years. He was an avid gardener in Indiana and had an orchard in Hawaii. He was a kind and generous man, a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; three daughters, Leslie (Doug) Halaby-Moore, P. Fadwah Halaby and Julia Halaby; two sons, John Halaby and Justin (Kendra) Carnes; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a brother, Sami (Gisela) Halaby; two sisters, Samia Halaby and Nahida (Donald) Gordon; Dave Waikel, more of a brother than an in-law; several loving nieces and nephews.
Fouad was preceded in death by both of his parents, Assad Halaby and Foutounie Halaby (Atalla); his son, Carlton Halaby; a step-son, Colin Carnes.
A memorial gathering will be on Monday, September 25, 2023 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM, with a memorial service starting at 4:00 PM, at Trinity English Lutheran Church, 450 West Washington Boulevard, Fort Wayne, IN 46802.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory of Fouad to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or The Jerusalem Fund.
