

A source of great pride was being born and raised in Jackson Twsp. in Wells County and marrying into a Wells County family. She excelled in 4-H and graduated from Lancaster H.S. She worked at the Wells Comm. Hospital and its Courthouse after high school and during college. She earned a BSE at IU-Bloomington and a MEd from the Univ. of St. Francis.
Her life’s passions were education and philanthropy. For nearly 50 years she fought tirelessly, locally and at the state and national level for the advancement of education in Indiana and for student’s and teacher’s rights. She taught 1st and 2nd grade in FWCS for over 40 years. During 10 years of retirement, she volunteered by tutoring in schools and teaching Burmese adults and children to read and write English. Among her life-long, numerous philanthropic endeavors were seven amazing mission trips to Jamaica with her church and Food for the Poor to build schools, libraries, homes and care for orphans and the disadvantaged.
She was a devoted mother, aunt and grandmother to two daughters and two son-in-laws, two grandchildren and an abundance of nieces and nephews.
Surviving are her daughters, Lesli McIntosh (former son-in-law, Brent Broderick) and Heather (Jared) Sparks; grandchildren, Avery and Conner; brother, Roy (Janet) Schoeff; sisters, Carol Meeks, Joyce (Walter) Neuenschwander, and Glennis (Wayne) Henly.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, George J. McIntosh, her parents and her in-laws George D. McIntosh and Mary Hazel (Rayl) McIntosh, all Wells County natives.
Funeral service will be on Sunday July 27, 2014 at 3pm at St. Michaels Lutheran Church, 2131 Getz Rd., Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be on Saturday, July 26th from 1 to 4 pm and 6 to 9 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Rd, Fort Wayne. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Warren, Ind. immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the “Global Mission Fund” at St. Michael Lutheran Church or Cancer Services of NE Indiana.
