

He was born May 9,1920 in Buffalo, New York, to the late Otto and Estelle Shad Finkbeiner. He graduated from Buffalo Bonnet High School in 1938, where he lettered in Swimming and achieved the rank of Eagle
Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Finkbeiner graduated from the University Of Alabama School Of
Industrial Engineering, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1942, where he was also a member of both the Theta ZI Fraternity, and the Theta Tau Professional Engineering Fraternity. George proudly served his country in the United States Army during WW II, where he was stationed in the Pacific theater. He had attained the rank of Captain at the time of his honorable discharge.
On May 21 1949. he was united in marriage to Marilyn Young in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They shared 60 years of marriage until she preceded him in death on February 27,2010. They enjoyed traveling together on numerous cruises and journeys across the globe. They basked in the friendship of their cherished friends and neighbors, and were known as most gracious and fun loving hosts.
George was an executive with General Electric Company in Fort Wayne, where he had worked for thirty plus years up until the time of his retirement. During his tenure at General Electric he played on and coached several championship Volleyball and Bowling teams at the "GE Club".
George was a 60 year member of Trinity English Lutheran Church of Fort Wayne where he served on the church council for several years. He was a member of Fort Wayne Mizpah Shrine, Masonic Lodge 725, and the Scottish Rite. He helped transport sick children from Fort Wayne to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in
Chicago. He was also active in the United Way, the American Red Cross, and the Boy Scouts of America.
George was a beloved father to his daughter and her husband, Carol (Gary) Zandstra of Fremont, IN and his son and daughter in law, Jon (Brenda) Finkbeiner of Ridgefield, CT; and to his granddaughter, the
Reverend Lee Zandstra of Flemmington, NJ, and several nieces and nephews. His brother in law and wife
Don and Mary Young were great friends throughout his life and provided loving companionship during his final days. George was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Finkbeiner of Port Washington, NY and his sister, Jean Lennard of Cheektowaga, NY.
Funeral services for George Finkbeiner will be held at 2:00 p.m Tuesday November 23rd at Trinity English Lutheran Church
Lutheran Church, 405 West Wayne Street in Fort Wayne. The Reverends Richard Frazier and Frederick Hasecke,
Pastors, will officiate. Relatives and friends are welcome at Trinity Lutheran from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of services, and immediately following the service in Wagenhals hall in the church.
