

GEORGE FULTON "SONNY" HAYS, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at home surrounded by his family in Leo, Ind., following a brave battle with renal failure. Born Nov. 24, 1956, in Marion, Va., he was a son of the late Laura Sexton Buchanan Hays Matthews and George Fulton Hays Sr. of Rich Valley, Va. George graduated from Downers Grove South High School in 1975. He graduated from University of Tennessee at Martin in 1981 with a BS in Liberal Arts. On Feb. 27, 2004, he married the love of his life, Tamara Bailey, who survives. He was a long-time radio personality in Helena, Ark., where he was also involved with the King Biscuit Blues Festival and the Main Street Community Development. He was also employed as the automotive division sales manager for Fort Wayne Newspaper/KPC Media Group. He was recently retired as sales manager at the Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly. George was a gregarious, fun-loving soul who didn't know a stranger. He loved his family, friends, music, playing golf, and University of Tennessee sports. George is survived by his daughter, Sydney Rose Hays; siblings, Laura Betsy (Greg) Bossaer of Reynolds, Ind., Robert (Joan) Hays of Kentland, Ind., and David (Lori) Hays of W. Lafayette, Ind.; sisters-in-law, Rhonda Bailey (Ty) Reed and Teresa (Rusty) Stephens; brother-in-law, Rick Bailey; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his maternal grandparents, Florence and Graham Buchanan; paternal grandparents, Robert and Mary Fulton Hays; and nephew, Robert C. Hays.
