

(George) Robert Wilson, age 92, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023 with his family by his side. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, west Jefferson. Born on January 7, 1931 in Tennessee, he was the son of the late (Luther) Luke and Mamie (Wallace) Wilson. Robert spent his childhood in Cleveland, TN. He married Karen (Sanderson), and together they spent the next 67 years building a life in Fort Wayne and watching their family grow. A builder and roofer by trade, Robert “left his handiwork all over Fort Wayne.” One of his largest building projects was completing the roof on the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. After retiring from construction, Robert worked as an upholster. When not working, he enjoyed playing guitar, singing, fishing and being outdoors. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly, and above all truly enjoyed just being with his family. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Karen Wilson; daughters, Patty Wilson and Dawn Strange; sons, Ronald (Sue), Richard (Linda Sullivan), and Chad M. Wilson. Special “Fort Wayne son”, Mike Lay; over 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Baker and Bonnie Jenkins; brothers, Charles, James, and Donnie Wilson; and several nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his son, Robert Wilson; three brothers John, Bill, and Berl; a sister Lois; and his parents. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne IN 46805 with calling one hour prior. Visitation will also be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2023 at the funeral home. Robert will be laid to rest at Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, at the conclusion of the funeral service. Memorials may be written to the Wilson family.
