Gerald S. Holmquist, 93, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Golden Years Homestead. Born July 23, 1927 in Forest Lake, Minn., he was a son of the late Frederick and Olive (Seager) Holmquist. A graduate of Forest Lake Area High School in Forest Lake, Minn., he furthered his education at Minnesota Bible College in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Milligan College in Johnson City, Tennessee and Ozark Bible College in Joplin, Missouri earning a bachelor degree in Sacred Literature. Ordained in 1951, Gerald was a lifelong pastor and missionary in Brazil from 1959-1992, where he started numerous churches, established leadership, and was able to disciple others. He was honored to serve as President of the National Missionary Convention in 1974. In 1992, he was a mission’s pastor at Broadway Christian Church for 5 years and in the late 1990’s, he moved to Colorado to serve with Turkish World Outreach. In 2002, Gerald moved to Arizona and was the associate pastor with Westside Christian Church for 11 years, from which he retired. Surviving are his sons, Dennis Holmquist of La Grande, Ore., and Dean (Cathy) Holmquist of Kansas City, Mo.; daughters, Rochia Holmquist of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Relda (Fernando) Nogueira of Goiania, Brazil; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Day) Holmquist; daughter-in-law, Leslie Holmquist; sisters, Elizabeth Ryan and Eve Smith; and brother, Fred Holmquist.
