Glenn J. Crowl, 96, passed away Friday March 6, 2015. Born November 5, 1918 in Wells County, Indiana, he was the only child of the late Homer and Grace Crowl. Growing up during the hard times of the Depression, Glenn learned the value of money early. By the time he graduated from the eighth grade he had already found what was to become his life-long career, that of a coin-operated amusement machine operator. He purchased his first mechanical table-top pinball machine in 1932 when he was just 14 years old. With the help of his mother Grace, Playfair Sales became a large coin-operated amusement operation throughout the Midwest. He married his Elmhurst High School sweetheart, Bettie Beaman in 1946. Nearly thirty years after her death, he married another long-time Waynedale resident, Catherine (Sheets) Warren. Together they traveled extensively, culminating with a flight on the Concorde to London, England. This happy union lasted 25 years until her death last November. Glenn is survived by his children, Diann Deutsch, and Brian (Sandra) Crowl, step-children James (Nancy) Warren and Peggy Engleman, 9 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many dear ones who loved him like a father and grandfather because of his generosity, charity, and sincere concern.
Visitiation will be held Tuesday, March 10 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Winchester Road Chapel.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, March 11 at 11am at Waynedale United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to the Waynedale United Methodist Church, where he has been a member since 1927. Burial in Oaklawn Cemetery, Ossian, Indiana.
