Gregory A. DeLong

Greg passed away at sunset, his favorite time of day, on May 10th. He is survived by his wife Linda DeLong, sons Chris, Kurt (Kim), Tim (Mindy) DeLong, daughters Kim (Jerry) Burton and Kerry (Greg) Detamore, grandchildren Taylor, Kara, Kameron and Alec DeLong, Noah, Emma and Jack Burton, Ellary, Bree and Brock Detamore.

Born June 26, 1943 in Fort Wayne to the late Burke Lee and Anne Elizabeth DeLong, survived by brother Tom DeLong. Greg attended Culver Military Academy for 2 years, graduated from North Side High School then attended Purdue University. He went on to become the owner of Shar Systems in Fort Wayne for 53 years.

Shar started as a small local manufacturer of industrial process equipment. Under Greg’s leadership, the company grew significantly and manufactured complex mixing systems for companies around the world.

Greg was a devoted husband to Linda for 35 years and loved being a Grandpa to grandchildren, who loved to spend time with him, especially at the lake. In addition to spending time at the lake, he was an avid tennis player, not only playing but serving in leadership roles on local tennis associations and teams. Greg and Linda met through tennis and were a great doubles team. He enjoyed playing euchre, sudoku, and solitaire on his laptop. Always active, he was working on his golf and pickleball games.

As a husband, father, grandfather, brother or friend, Greg was loved by many. He will be missed for his compassionate heart, warm smile and giving spirit.

We wish to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern and kindness shown to all of us during this difficult time.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 3pm with calling hours from 1-3pm at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, 5910 Homestead Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46814 in lieu of flowers.
