

Gretchen Jo Schilb, 61, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at her home, surrounded by family. She was born on August 28, 1963, in Van Wert, Ohio, the daughter of the late Robert Wait and Joan Wait, who survives.
A longtime resident of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Gretchen graduated from Snider High School and spent most of her career in banking. Most recently, she was a Sr. Merchant Sales Officer at First Merchants Bank, and she previously held similar roles for Wells Fargo Bank for over twenty years. Over the course of her career, she was a top performer and received many awards, including multiple Gold Shield Awards, recognizing her excellence in sales at First Merchants.
While she received many professional accolades, Gretchen’s family was always her highest priority. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Rob, for 36 years, and anyone who talked to Gretchen knew that her two daughters were her pride and joy.
Gretchen was passionate about health and fitness. She loved working out, running, and walking all the family dogs. Gretchen cherished going on annual family vacations to Myrtle Beach and trips to Las Vegas with her husband.
Everything Gretchen did was for the benefit of others. She loved to talk to people and learn their stories. Her determination, strength and fun spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Gretchen is survived by her loving husband, Robert Schilb; daughters, Veronica (Alex) Hubartt and Taylor (Cole) Bruick; mother, Joan Wait; brothers, Jason (Jacqueline) Wait and Paul (Julie) Wait; grandson, Richie Hubartt; niece, Isabella Wait; mother-in-law, Mary MacPherson; and her rescued golden retriever, Buddy. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Wait, and her father-in-law, Robert Schilb.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
